Dubai transport

Location : Dubai

Metro

Passes by 47 stations and covers Dubai's main areas and destinations. Dubai Metro is the most convenient public transport mode, is 99.9% on time and has an average waiting departure time of every 5 minutes. The Metro stations link you to a wide network of other means of transport such as buses, tram and taxi. The metro is also available to and from DXB airport. For payments use your nol card or buy a ticket on the station. Average cost for a single trip AED 3-5 ($1) only.

Bus

Dubai busses consist of 119 bus routes and has a fleet of over 1500 busses that connect the city throughout. There are 35 lines to feed the metro station and is therefore an easy mode to transfer. However, busses do not pass by as often as the Metro and tend to not be far less reliable in their on time performance. If you plan to transfer by bus but your destination is close, you might want to consider continuing on foot or by taxi instead. For trips within the city of Dubai only NOL cards can be used for payment and the average ticket price is AED 3-5. Intercity bus tickets for a journey to the other Emirates are available on the departure stations and range between AED 10-25.

Tram

The Dubai Tram is powered by a ground-based electric supply system extending along the track and therefor does not require catenary cables. The tram service links Dubai Metro and The Palm Monorail and it runs along Al Sufouh Road, Dubai Marina and Jumeirah Beach Road. The covered area is currently very limited but extension phases are planned. The tram can still be convenient when staying in this area and a single ride is only AED 3. The speed of the tram however makes you wonder if walking won’t be faster.

Trollybus

The Dubai Trolley is still in construction and will eventually run for 7 km through central Dubai. The first phase is already in operation, running for 1 km along the Mohammed Bin Rashid Boulevard. Its 3 air-conditioned stops serve Dubai Mall, The Address Downtown Dubai and Vida Downtown Dubai. The Dubai Trolley operates from 16:00-00:00 daily and is free of charge. Its red and gold zero-emissions vehicles have an air-conditioned lower deck and an open upper deck.
